Top 10 in demand jobs in the PH in 2021: BPO industry leads ranking

There is no doubt that the past year has been challenging for the whole world as it battles the COVID-19 pandemic. According to the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the global economy shrank by 4.9% and only a handful of countries country in the world escaped its wrath.

In the case of the Philippines, Gross Domestic Product (GDP) data for first quarter of 2021 showed a decline of 4.2%. This economic contraction is already an improvement from the 17% decline from the same period a year ago.

While the macroeconomic fundamentals seem to be weak and vulnerable, the growth and recovery of some industries can be observed from the list of in demand jobs in the Philippines. Jobstreet, the country’s leading online job portal published a list of the most in demand jobs in the Philippines last January. Here is the top 10:

  1. Call Center/IT-Enabled Services/BPO (23%) 

  1. Government/Defense (21%) 

  1. Human Resources Management/Consulting (12%) 

  1. Education (9%) 

  1. Computer/IT Software (5%) 

  1. Other Specializations (3%) 

  1. Retail/Merchandise (3%) 

  1. Manufacturing/ Production (3%) 

  1. Healthcare/Medical (3%) 

  1. Banking/Financial Services (2%) 

The Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) industry leads the rest of the pack with the most number of career opportunities. In fact, it continues to grow despite the pandemic as it was able to sustain most of its operations through implementing various flexible work arrangements, including work-from-home, as stated by Ray Untal, President of Information Technology and Business Process Association of the Philippines (ITBPAP).
